Nothing Ever lasts it seems (song)

Nothing ever lasts it seems
We spend our lives attempting things
But every flower ever planted
Withered up and simply vanished

(chorus)
I’ve got this on ma mind
Never had to worry what I might find
Always had, plenty o’ time
In the heat I enjoy sunlight
But when the sky turns to gray
And the day turns all away
You were on my mind.

I don’t want short term elation
When the party stops I’ve ‘spectations
You make me laugh feel good inside
But I won’t show next time you hide

(chorus)

Point your figure back at me
I’m the one you never see
Always planting always busy
What am I supposed to say?

These things--They don’t go away!

And now (chorus)

You were on my mind. 2x

I sail these seas treasure I’ve found
But I’ve had to bury it all around
What’s the point of having all this gold
When you can’t have it when you’re old?

(chorus)

And you fade away. 4x

Vertical Climb

I’m not a nihilist;
but everything I do brings be back to 0,0.
In the grand scheme of things,
Every positive I make in one way
Could be made another way;
All roads lead back to home,
And there are many ways of doing the same thing.

I guess Providence wants these things to happen to me
Cause whether I will it so or not
It still happens; Good or Bad.
What will be, will be.
What can I do?
Or should I do anything?

When I entered this world,
This was the start of my grand journey.
I left home without anything
When I return, I won’t have anything either.
Just a bundle of memories--Hey,
I had memories before I left,
But I don’t have memory of that now.
It’s just that sometimes I seem to remember…somehow.

I suppose it depends on how you look at it,
Is it a post hole or a tunnel?
My positives and my negatives
Might as well be negatives and positives,
Because they look like neutrons in my book,
And I don’t care about that science.

I once left for adventure,
But came back the same.
Sure I had experiences,
But they aren’t useable in anything.
--I tell you what, that war that I entered
I wouldn’t speak of to anyone.
But I know that it did happen,
So I suppose it was for me.
That’s how I know I’m still alive, I tell you what!

But the time I had,
Preparing for adventure,
That’s when I learned everything.
That’s when I learn most things really.
When I set my plans,
before it’s all happened,
and not while it’s happening.

The way I see it,
It has come down to this:
Do I enjoy what I have now? Then great.
But if not, I need to learn what I do enjoy about it,
Because everything will keep changing around me
And I’ll keep swimming to stay afloat.
But unless I learn to love swimming,
I’ll be in for a rough life.

Really it’s not the swimming—
I’m always one step ahead of the game.
I keep jumping from falling rock to falling rock
To stay in the air.
Oh, you might say I’m flying.
I can’t look down to see how far I’ve gone.
‘Cause when I do, I’ll miss my step
And forget to leap.
And I’ll fall.

But Lord, it sure feels like I haven’t moved vertically at all!

Accent on Horse'

Accent on Horse'
By Kyle Oakeson

I’m told my pick of horses is really quite terrible
I bet on the ones that look the most dressed
Not the one that will actually win.

I’ve trained horse after horse and let a lot go
And as soon as they’re sold, they win tourney elsewhere
I’m so happy for what they’ve become.

I suppose my problem is the sport I compete
And the horses aren’t the type that succeed
They’d do better in something I hate.

See I gave up showing and circus as well
Too much show, too gaudy and dull
And took up polo, majestic and all!

Because when you learn how the magic really works in those shows
Your clown face turns to painted frown
And you high tail your horse straight home

You return to your loved ones so high up in class
And beg forgiveness for running away
And your hate for the circus is born.

You despise the fact that you know what you know
And you hate that it’s all just a trick
To get you to escape from your life

Me? I turned to polo, the gentleman’s sport
My family totally agrees
It suits me to have it that way

But the horses I’m so used to working with
The ones that’re so fun to train
Aren’t suited for gentleman’s ways

They’re superior show horses
Arabian wilds
But they won’t get me anywhere on the field.

What is truth?

What is truth?
By Kyle Oakeson

Do endorsements make professionals
Or the amount that they get paid?
Is it because he claimed he was one
Or is experience in his ways?
Does he cast his spell upon you and you simply think he’s right?
Perhaps he can back it up too, does his success make him qualified?
Or can failure do it to; surely he knows what not to do?
Is it the paper he hangs on the wall that cost him several grand?
Is it because the government put license in his hand?
Or is it because his words can move you to believe,
Could he be a natural, did fate give him these skills?
Or will he have to prove them still
And get credentials like everybody else?
Does confidence make him succeed,
Or did success make him confident?
What of the artist who truly paints with skill,
Is it always because of practice, or from talents up above?
Does eternal truth grant him success?
Or does popular vote give him his credence?
Does it matter where he gets it from, if you think deep down it’s right?

The Best Kind

The Best Kind
By Kyle Oakeson

The best kind of people
Don’t ask you to love them
They ask you to let them
Love you.

I feel sorry

I feel sorry
For all those good people out there
Who I ever offended
Or stepped on
Or have forgotten

I feel sorry
For the people in need
Who I never reached out to
Who I ignored
Who I never met
And they needed me

I feel sorry
That I have it so good in life
And I go around proud
Or when I have it good in life
And I go around humbly
--I ought to just be grateful
That’s all

I feel sorry
for all of you
Who I really never knew
And it almost seems too late now

I feel sorry
That I took all your time
Talking about me
And you couldn’t tell me
Anything about you

I feel sorry
That I’ve spent so much of my life
Trying to figure out how the world works
Only to realize that it works so simply
That it doesn’t take a genius to appreciate it

I feel sorry
That the time I spent telling you these things
You could have told me about yourself
And I could have made an effort
To help make your life better
Make it the way you want it to be
Make it much happier
Make it more appreciative
More loving
More friendly
Better. Just better.

I feel sorry
That this time I took of yours
Telling you all these things
Could have been spent helping others
Or helping yourself
Cause you need it more than I do
More than they do.

I feel sorry
That I offended you
When I told you
you were wasting your time
right now
listening to me
tell you what to do
because you probably already knew

I feel sorry
That this is my best effort at motivating you
To do the things you need to
But every little bit counts

I feel sorry
That I feel sorry at all
Because really
There is nothing
To be sorry for
At all

Life is something to be happy about
To find the good in
And when you find something good
Something you’re happy about
You want to share it with everyone

That’s how I really feel
I don’t feel sorry at all
There’s nothing to ever be
Sorry about
So stop saying it

And then there was 1

And then there was 1
By Kyle Oakeson

He stood up straight and walked away
Just hoping and dreaming and waiting for the day
He had a knife in his side
Only in me could he confide

Way back when there were only 2two
Or 1ten or 1twelve that he really knew
His whole world was flying high
And they flipped it over and then said goodbye

You think you’ve got your head around
What you want from life you haven’t found
And any day you might say things could change
So you toss your hair pull back your bangs

You’re leaving him out in the rain
This knife of yours is lots of pain
You shy away cause you’re afraid
You’re losing him to the grand parade

So stand up straight and walk away
Keep waiting for the better day
You’ll never find it if you don’t take a stand
You’ll keep fading off into never land

And there was 1one.
